TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Police in Tuscaloosa say they're investigating a fatal crash during a police pursuit.

Authorities say police were pursuing 30-year-old James Champion during a response to a burglary call at an apartment complex late Tuesday night.

Police spokesman Brent Blankley says the SUV Champion was driving collided with another car before eventually hitting a police car during the pursuit. Authorities say Champion's passenger, 29-year-old Ronald Hoover Jr., was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say two other passengers and a police officer were treated at DCH Regional Medical Center.

Champion was arrested on charges of eluding police and leaving the scene of an accident. He was also charged with violating his probation.

Champion is being held on $17,500 bond. It's unclear if he has a lawyer.
