Dothan voters approve Sunday liquor sales

DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) — Voters in Dothan have approved the sale of alcohol in retail stores on Sunday.

The Sunday sales referendum passed in a referendum Tuesday with 61 percent for and 39 percent against.

The vote will allow stories to sell beer, wine and liquor for off-premises consumption after 1 p.m. on Sundays. Sunday sales were already allowed in restaurants.

Mayor Mike Schmitz said the city will implement Sunday sales as soon as possible, most likely in September.
