MOULTON, Ala. (AP) — Sheriff's officials in northern Alabama say a former drug task force agent has been arrested on drug charges.

Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell told the Florence TimesDaily (http://bit.ly/15Wg70K ) 52-year-old Duncan Eric Shelton was arrested on charges of possession and distribution of a controlled substance. Shelton is accused of selling prescription drugs to an undercover officer for two months.

Authorities say the case was investigated by the Lawrence County Drug Task Force — where Shelton worked nearly 20 years ago.

He was arrested in 1993 and again in 2011 on drug charges and spent time on probation in each case.

Shelton is being held in the Lawrence County jail on $35,000 bond. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
