Driver in fatal Lee County crash charged with DUI

OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) — Lee County sheriff's officials say the driver in a fatal, single-car crash is free on bond.

Capt. Van Jackson told the Opelika-Auburn News Monday ( ) that 22-year-old Parker Lowell Ivey of Montgomery was charged with driving under the influence and is free on $750 bond.

Authorities say the man was driving Sunday morning when the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee he was riding in left the road, hit a guard rail and overturned in a ditch. His passenger, 22-year-old Collier Ann Byers, was killed in the crash and Ivey was not injured.

It wasn't immediately clear if Ivey had an attorney.
