Former Ala. school official charged with husband
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A former Alabama education official and her husband are facing felony ethics charges.
State Attorney General Luther Strange said a Montgomery County grand jury indicted Deann and Dave Stone of Wetumpka, and they surrendered Wednesday at the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.
Deann Stone was director of federal programs for the state Department of Education until she resigned in October 2010. Her husband works for Information Transport Solutions.
Deann Stone is accused of using her official position to obtain personal gain for the couple and for her husband's company through the allocation of federal stimulus money to three county school systems that were using Dave Stone's company.
Court records don't indicate if the Stones have an attorney yet, but Deann Stone has said previously there was no conflict of interest.
