Ala court rejects appeal by death row inmate

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The Alabama Supreme Court is turning away an appeal by a death row inmate from Madison County.

The justices on Friday refused to consider a new trial for 36-year-old Jason Michael Sharp.

Sharp is on death row at Holman prison after being convicted of capital murder in 2006 in the slaying of Tracy Morris.

Morris was sexually assaulted and stabbed to death in 1999.

A state appeals court ordered a new trial for Sharp but reversed itself last year. His appeal centered on whether prosecutors improperly removed blacks as jurors in Sharp's trial.

Sharp is white and so was his victim.
