New trial set for dad of middle school shooter
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — A Madison County judge has set a new trial date for a north Alabama doctor accused of trying to help his son flee after a deadly middle school shooting.
WAAY-TV (http://bit.ly/19ZoelU ) reports Iqbal Memon is set to go on trial on Oct. 28 on a charge of hindering prosecution.
Memon was first set for trial in August but the case was delayed.
Prosecutors accuse the man of helping son Hammad Memon in a bid to flee after the 14-year-old shot and killed a classmate in 2010.
Authorities arrested Memon and his mother during what police described as an attempt to leave for Pakistan. The woman also is charged with hindering prosecution.
Hammad Memon pleaded guilty in the slaying. His physician father also is charged with Medicaid theft.
