2 Alabama sheriffs stepping down after many years

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Two long-serving sheriffs won't be seeking election in the 2014 campaigns, leaving their positions open for the first time in many years.

The Montgomery Advertiser reports (http://on.mgmadv.com/14PWFHl) that Herbie Johnson in Autauga County and D.T Marshall in Montgomery County both plan to serve out the remainder of their terms before stepping down.

Johnson is now in his sixth consecutive term, and when the current term ends in January 2015, Marshall will have served 16 years in the office.
