Former Auburn police officer sues city
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A former Auburn police officer who claims he was fired after complaining about what he considers a police department ticket quota has filed a lawsuit against the city.
Al.com reports (http://bit.ly/1dMgfZP) that Justin Hanners maintains in the suit that Auburn police implemented a system in 2010 requiring police officers to issue tickets and warnings according to mathematical formulas.
City officials have denied there was a ticket quota.
Hanners says he was demoted and then terminated, which he says was retaliation after he spoke out about the issue.
The lawsuit was filed Aug. 30 in Montgomery County Circuit Court.
Al.com reports that city officials declined to comment on the lawsuit.
