DECATUR, Ala. (AP) — The Decatur Police Department says it has arrested one of its own officers.

Authorities say Officer Timothy Hughes was arrested Friday on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance. He was booked into the Decatur City Jail and later transferred to the Morgan County Jail where he was being held on a $2,500 bond.

Police say Hughes resigned following his arrest and had an unspecified amount of Oxycodone with him at the time of arrest.

Police say Hughes joined the department in 2011. A home telephone number for Hughes could not be found, and it was unknown if he had hired an attorney.
