JASPER, Ala. (AP) — A high school football coach is apologizing after he was involved in a fight with an opposing coach following a game last week.

WBRC-TV reports (http://bit.ly/17Gh9Pf ) former Walker High School head football coach John Holladay issued the apology Friday for his role in a fight with Cullman High School assistant coach Matt Hopper.

Holladay resigned earlier this week and the Alabama High School Athletic Association sanctioned both schools. In his apology, Holladay acknowledges failing his players and causing embarrassment to the school.

Television footage showed Hopper approaching Holladay before Holladay threw the first punch. Hopper emerged from the melee with blood streaming down his face. It's unclear what led up to the fight.

Each school has also been fined $1,500 for flagrant unsportsmanlike conduct.
