DECATUR, Ala. (AP) — According to state crash reports, Decatur police officers have been at fault in 10 of the 12 crashes they've been involved in this year.

The Decatur Daily (http://bit.ly/1e5M3tK ) reports at least 15 of the department's vehicles have been involved in crashes with other police cars, civilians or fixed objects.

Police Chief Ed Taylor says accidents are inevitable, but officers have made too many mistakes on the road. He says the force has collectively been involved in more crashes than are acceptable or normal.

Taylor says officers involved in crashes are typically reprimanded orally or in writing.

The newspaper reports officers who weren't responding to emergencies and didn't have their lights or sirens on have been involved in at least three crashes with civilians because they failed to yield.
