Ala. man convicted in fatal police shooting
OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) — The man accused of fatally shooting an Anniston police officer has been found guilty of capital murder.
Joshua Russell faces life in prison in the death of 27-year-old Justin Sollohub. Investigators have said 26-year-old Russell shot Sollohub during a foot chase in 2011.
Earlier in the trial, Russell's sister, Cheryl Bush, said he called her the day of the shooting sounded like he was being chased. She said police asked her to convince Russell to surrender to authorities. He was arrested after a manhunt.
The Anniston Star reported (http://bit.ly/15yKuz7) the jury deliberated for more than three hours before delivering their verdict.
The sentencing phase of Russell's trial is expected to being Tuesday morning.
Russell's trial was moved to Lee County from Etowah in an effort to find an impartial jury.
