Woman sentenced to probation in infant's death

BESSEMER, Ala. (AP) — A woman has been sentenced to 18 months of probation in the death of her 2-year-old daughter.

Al.com reports (http://bit.ly/1eWBW8P ) 26-year-old Whitney Wilson pleaded guilty to manslaughter late last week in the death of her daughter, Candence. Investigators have said the girl suffered a fractured skull, femur and ribs. Wilson maintained her innocence and had been held in jail since the girl's 2010 death.

Officials say Wilson pleaded guilty to manslaughter to avoid receiving a harsher sentence on a capital murder charge. She was freed from the county jail Thursday.
