State transportation officials have temporarily halted a highway project on the Montgomery Outer Loop following the deaths of two construction workers.

The men fell to their deaths Wednesday while working on the freeway overpass construction project.
The Montgomery Advertiser reports (http://on.mgmadv.com/KIEmN0) that the Alabama Department of Transportation delayed work on the project through the end of the week out of respect for the families and co-workers of the men.
Montgomery County sheriff's officials say 53-year-old Lomax Phillips of Birmingham and 63-year-old David Lee White of Montgomery died after a piece of equipment they were using toppled. They fell an estimated 90 feet.
Federal officials are investigating the accident.
