Saturday is the National Society of Black Engineers 6th Annual Engineering Day.

Students from all across the River Region came out to Oak Park for a little hands-on learning.

The free event let kids try their hand at a few science experiments. Making lava lamps, fireworks and even lightbulbs.

They had help from a few pros.

Scientists from NASA in Huntsville were on hand to talk with the students.

Organizers say they hope this helps spark kids' interest in math and science as they head into a new school year.

The free event happens every year and is open to all kids 5 and up.
