Federal authorities say a new designer drug seized for the first time in Alabama has been seen dozens of times in other state.

The Drug Enforcement Administration says police in other states have seized AB-Pinaca about 200 times.

Etowah County authorities say a recent bust near Boaz was the first discovery of the dangerous drug in Alabama.

Two people face state drug possession and trafficking charges.

The drug is a chemical compound used to make synthetic drugs commonly called "spice."

Authorities say about 4 pounds of the drug was allegedly shipped from China to a home near Boaz in Etowah County.

The drug is so new the DEA has yet to decide to classify it as a controlled substance. It's already controlled under state law.
