Miss Alabama, Anna Laura Bryan made the Top 12 in the Miss America pageant, but another Alabama native won the Miss America crown last night, Miss New York.

Miss New York, Mallory Hagan grew up in Opelika, but took the Miss America stage representing New York, where she moved after attending Auburn University.

Neighbors say they remember Hagan as a little girl saying she wanted to become Miss America.

Others said her stage presence Saturday night was natural and fun, not Barbie-like.

Hagan's supporters gathered at an Opelika restaurant to watch the pageant, clapping and cheering when she won.
