New Study Reveals Why April 27th Tornadoes Killed So Many Alabamians

As Alabama recognizes the one year anniversary of the April 27th tornado outbreak, the state is learning more about why the tornadoes were so deadly. 

 

The Centers for Disease Control is completing a study of those who died and where they were when it happened. Among the conclusions so far: nearly half of the people who died had been advised to take shelter. While most people did seek shelter, federal researchers learned many of the tornadoes were so fierce that few structures were able to withstand them. Unlike in other tornado outbreaks, the largest group of people who died were in single-family houses, not mobile homes, the CDC analysis found.
