Gov. Bentley: Alabama Teachers Could Have 10-percent Pay Raise

By Alabama News Network

The Alabama State Employees Association says most teachers have not received a pay increase since 2008, but now Governor Bentley is setting a new goal to raise teachers' pay by close to 10-percent over three years.

Bentley is asking the Legislature to approve a two and half percent raise for the 2013-2014 school year and says he intends to propose a similar amount for the next two school years.

The governor told a group of retired teachers when everything is said and done, teachers may have a 10-percent raise because he says the state's economy is improving and tax collections for the education budget are picking up.
