It may be a tiny town with one traffic light and a few businesses.
But out of this very small town... comes a very big voice.

Jessica Meuse was selected as one of American Idols Top 5 girls this season. And now she prepares for the next round of eliminations in Hollywood.

"It's amazing! I have dealings with people in New York that have called me and said hey we heard Slapout on American Idol and couldn't believe it. I told you there is a place called Slapout!" said Paula Cardwell.

Of course, her own family is proud. We talked to her younger brother Cody at home in Slapout.

"Really there is no word to describe how excited I am. And I'm not even the one on there! But it's not everyday that someone from Slapout Alabama or such a small town gets chosen and makes it that far," said Cody Meuse.

Cody's friends say they remember her when she was just trying to make a name for herself.

"Every weekend she was going some other place, she'd drive hours for a show and practicing and singing, getting as good as she could get," said Todd Holley.

Now that she has made it, you better believe they are voting for their hometown girl.
And they are teaching others how to do it as well.

"Each person can get 150 votes per phone number. So we have told all our family and friends to monopolize on that and vote as many times as they can because she is from a small state, Alabama. We need all the votes we can get for her," said Paula Holley.

You can watch American Idol Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7pm on WCOV.
