Tuskegee University President Resigns

By Brittany Bivins

Tuskegee University officials say university president Gilbert Rochon is resigning from his position.

That's after a meeting with the Board of Trustees. School leaders say Rochon turned in his resignation and the board accepted it. It is not clear why Rochon is leaving the university. He has been president of the school for three years, since his appointment in November of 2010.

The Board of Trustees has appointed Matthew Jenkins as acting president in the meantime, while the school prepares to conduct a national search.

Jenkins is an alum of Tuskegee University and former member of the Board of Trustees.
