52 young women from across the state competed for the title of Alabama's Distinguished Young Woman of 2013.

The competition scores contestants based on their interview skills, education, talent, fitness and self-expression.

Jean Elizabeth Miles of Houston County received the honor last night at Frazier Memorial United Methodist church in Montgomery.

She will go on to compete in the 56th National Finals in Mobile.

Coffee County's Payton Edberg was named first runner-up and Lee County's Nancy Fang was the contest's second runner-up.
