The Alabama Democratic Party has cleared the way for former state conservation Commissioner Charley Grimsley to run for State Treasurer.

A challenge had been filed against Grimsley's candidacy because he had contributed to republican candidates in the past.

But The state democratic executive committee ruled that Grimsley is a democrat in good standing.

His name can now appear on the democratic primary ballot.

Grimsley will face Birmingham attorney Jeremy Sherer.
