Campaign 2012 The City Vote: Demopolis

By George McDonald

Demopolis Mayor Mike Grayson is seeking a second term in office-- he's facing a challenge from retired iron worker and Navy veteran Donald Singleton.

Grayson says he wants to continue the job he started nearly four years ago because the work isn't over.

"The platform is the same in 2012 as it was in 2008 and that's one Demopolis and the fact that we are all going to move forward together and that's it period, and we're going to move forward by creating some jobs by trying to enhance our local industries to add jobs, of course bring new folks in, growth is where we have got to be, that's it," said Grayson.

Singleton says the city needs to make changes in the way things operate and that's why he's running.

"I think that we need some stability put back into our financial, I think that our infrastructure needs to be improved, I think we need commerce to come into this to give opportunity to our young people so they don't have to move away from home and that's going to create a stable security for our city," said Singleton.

The city of Demopolis has a population of about 8000 people.
