Mayors Sworn In Across River Region

Many towns across theRiver Region received a new mayor and council members Monday.

In Tuskegee... Johnny Ford is once again sworn in as mayor. Ford won back the seat he had for 28 years when he defeated incumbent Omar Neal.

In Prattville... Incumbent mayor Bill Gillespie and members of the city council took their oaths of office in the council chambers at city hall.

In Troy... For the first time in 30 years, the city has a new mayor, former city councilman Jason Reeves.

"It was a little surreal, you know, when you wait on something for awhile, when it finally gets here, it was really neat. It was special to see everyone and the looks on people's faces. I think there's a great deal of hope for the future of this community, and I'm excited about that," said Reeves.

In Selma.... Mayor George Evans was elected to a second term. And the nine members of the Selma City Council took the oath of office as well.


In Andalusia, Mayor Earl Johnson was sworn in for his second consecutive term, although it's his third time as mayor.

In Opp, a completely new administration is taking office. John Bartholomew is the new mayor. And a whole new city council was sworn in as well.


In Tallassee... Former Mayor Bobby Payne is getting his old seat back. Where he served for 20 years. He says he is looking forward to getting some entertainment back up and running in the city.

"Mt Vernon theater is an old theater in our town that we need to build and get back going where we could have different types of quartets there. You name it, big celebrities there," said Payne. 

In Greenville... Mayor Dexter McLendon is returning for his fourth term as Mayor after previously serving on the city council for 12 years. The council is welcoming a political newcomer to represent District 1 -- Bryan Reynolds.

In Wetumpka... for the first time in 20 years a mayor was re-elected for a consecutive term. Mayor Jerry Willis will serve a second term.
