City Promises: Selma

Tools

By George McDonald

Our continuing series, "City Promises,"  takes a look at the promises Selma Mayor George Evans made going into office-- and where those plans stand right now.

During his re-election campaign -- Evans promised downtown and neighborhood revitalization and pay raises for police. He also promised to put an investment program in place to encourage residents and businesses to invest in the community.

"So many times we work against each other rather than working with each other," said Evans. "I've learned over the years that working together works."

Evans says he spends most of his time as mayor handling things that come up unexpectedly -- rather than on the things that he wants to do for the city. He says replacing the city's infrastructure is a major priority. Selma is the third oldest city in the state.
