The Shooting of Gov. George Wallace, Part 2

Tools

By Glenn Halbrooks

When Gov. George Wallace was shot while campaigning for president in Maryland in 1972, First Lady Cornelia Wallace lept into action to try to save his life.

The film of the late CBS News cameraman Laurens Pierce shows the gunfire and the chaos that erupted. But it also captures Cornelia Wallace putting her own life on the line as she tried to protect the governor from further harm.

In this Exclusive interview, she remembers how that terrible day changed her family's life forever.
