This year marks 25 years since Gov. George Wallace made a life-changing decision to retire from politics and not seek a fifth term in office.

He dominated state government like no other figure in history -- at a time when Alabama faced tremendous change.

Some will remember Wallace only for his segregationist views in the 1960s. But those who knew him well say his career involved much more than just that one issue.
