83-Year-Old Legislation Proofreader to Retire after 30 YearsHave you wondered how every bill and resolution written in the Alabama Statehouse gets checked for mistakes? One lady in particular has been proofreading longer than anyone else. Harold Nicrosi is 83 years old and started work at the Alabama Statehouse in 1982. "I like words and so I like reading the bills and so I like reading the bills and making sure they're written properly....And then when we get amendments, we have to be sure that those amendments fit in the bill, in the right place. Because sometimes these senators are a little careless and they don't say the right line on the right page where their amendment goes," she said. After 30 years, she'll soon be making her last red mark. She plans to spend more time with her grandchildren and do some gardening. |
