Selma Man Sentenced to Life in Rape, Strangulation

By Alabama News Network

A man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2005 rape and murder of a 53-year-old woman.

Clifford Wynn of Selma was given two consecutive life sentences in Autauga County Circuit Court Monday. The 49-year-old man was disruptive in court - interrupting the judge and district attorney, and sticking both middle fingers up at the judge after he was sentenced.

District Attorney Casey Biggs said Patricia Laserre was raped, strangled and left on the side of a road. Wynn was convicted in December of 2012 and his trial attorney says the man maintains he is innocent. Wynn tried firing his attorney in court and plans to appeal the convictions.

Evidence shown during the trial matched DNA from Laserre's body to Wynn.
