Alabama Legislature in 2nd Day of Special Session
By CBS-8 News

The Alabama Legislature is beginning the second day of its special session for drawing new legislative districts.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to consider new Senate districts recommended by the Legislature's Republican-controlled reapportionment committee, and the House Constitution and Elections Committee is slated to consider new House districts recommended by the reapportionment committee.

The Democratic minority in the Legislature is opposing the proposed districts. House Minority Leader Craig Ford of Gadsden says Democrats don't have the votes to stop the Republican majority from passing new districts that favor Republicans, but Democrats will challenge them in court.
