An Alabama Democratic Senator says he's switching to the Republican party because the Democratic party in Alabama has changed.

Senator Jerry Fielding says he's switching to do what's best for his people.

He says his conservative values no longer line up with the Alabama Democratic party, which he says is moving more to the left.

Fielding, who's been in public office for 34 years, has served District 11 as a senator for the last 2 years.

"N

o longer can you say your an Alabama democrat as opposed to a democrat, I think the alabama democrat leadership is just echoing what happens in the national party,"said Fielding.

Since the last election, four house representatives and one senator have switched to the republican party.
