Animal Rights Protest Held in Montgomery

By Alabama News Network

Local animal rights activists gathered in Montgomery Wednesday to protest Walmart's handling of pigs.

The protest was organized by Mercy for Animals.

The organization says pork sold in Walmart stores comes from pigs that are confined in small crates their entire lives.  The group is now calling on Walmart to require its suppliers to phase out the practice.

McDonald's, Kroger, and several other national chains have recently banned the practice.
