Auburn Fans on Playing Gus Malzahn's Former Team

Arkansas State is riding a nine-game winning streak, but Auburn had a breakout performance in their first game under head coach Gus Malzahn.

With Auburn's first win against Washington State, the tigers hope to be victorious again against Arkansas State, a team Coach Gus Malzahn is all too familiar with.

"I think he just proved himself as being a head coach and helped his resume and just helped the SEC overall with the experience he gained from Arkansas State," says fan Jerry Powell.

"He knows the team and he knows these players and they're going to get them tomorrow," says Randy Walston.

Malzahn was at Arkansas State last season, his only year coaching there, before he returned to Auburn. But he had a successful record at the school, going 9-3 and winning a Conference Championship. It's that kind of success that Auburn fans hope he brings to the tigers this season. Some fans tell us they believe he can.

"I think it's going to help him because he was with the original championship team and Auburn has trust in him and everyone says trust in Gus and we can't go wrong with that," says Powell.

Although fans say they've put their trust into Malzahn, some tell us they know the matchup with Arkansas State may be a tough one.

Last game, he did say we were going to have to go a little bit harder to win against Arkansas State so since he knows that, we should win," says fan Ulecia Stanford.
