Auburn Shooting Suspect in Custody

After almost three long days of searching for suspected Auburn shooter Desmonte Leonard, the search is now over.

Around 8 p.m. Tuesday night Leonard turned himself in to U.S. Marshals at the federal courthouse.

Desmonte Leonard is accused of killing three people and shooting three others at a pool party near Auburn University Saturday night.

Attorney Susan James is not Leonard's legal representation, but says she was contacted by Leonard's family who asked if she could help them come to a peaceful resolution.

She says she wanted to help facilitate that and walked with Leonard into the federal courthouse as he turned himself in.

Director of Public Safety, Chris Murphy, says law enforcement officers can now breathe a sigh of relief.

Desmonte Leonard is currently in the Montgomery County jail. Leonard is expected to be taken to Auburn in the next couple of days.

Attorney Susan James says in the next 72 hours there will be a hearing and he will go before a judge who will tell him what he's charged with.

Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange says they will continue to pursue charges for those they believe hindered prosecution.
