Toomer's Corner Oak Trees Set on Fire After Auburn Win Saturday
With a win against Alabama A & M Saturday, Auburn fans celebrated with the tradition of tossing rolls of toilet paper on the trees at Toomer's Corner. Unfortunately, the celebration didn't last for long.
Auburn Police tell CBS 8 News around 3:20 a.m. Sunday the toilet paper and the famous oak trees caught on fire.
No one knows if the fire was intentional or an accident. Fortunately, the trees only have minor damage and the surrounding area was not affected by the flames.
This isn't the first time Toomer's Corner oak trees have suffered damage, Alabama fan Harvey Updyke is accused of poisoning the famed oaks after the Tide's loss against the Tigers in 2010.
Auburn University officials will have a meeting Monday to discuss the future of the trees on campus.
