Bill Setting up School Rating System Goes to Gov. Bentley

A bill to establish a comprehensive system to grade the performance of schools and school systems is on its way to Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley's desk.

 

The House on Wednesday approved changes made by the state Senate.

 

The ratings would use a data-based assessment of school performance. Schools would be given a grade of A, B, C, D or F just like students receive on their report cards.

 

The grading system is similar to one used in Florida.

 

The Alabama State Superintendent of Education would set up an evaluation system based on several performance indicators such as state-created assessments, achievement gap, college and career readiness and learning gains.
