Center Provides Refuge for Montgomery Homeless and Needy

By Jessica Gertler

Hundreds in our area are without roof and a hot meal this very moment, but a group of Montgomery residents have come together to provide refuge for those in need.

One Church Mission is a day shelter run by Reality and Truth Ministry. It provides refuge, hot meals, clothes and showers for Montgomery's homeless and needy.

Counseling and a weekly bible class are also offered.

The shelter has been open since last December, and the number of folks coming in has grown. Close to 100 people are in and out of the center each day.

"This is like their home. We become their home," says Deborah Thomas who helps run the center. "Their support. Some have been abused from child hood, and have never known someone to love them unconditionally."

The center is open Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The center is holding a tennis tournament June 29 to raise money from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. A reception and silent auction will be held from 7p.m. until 9 p.m.

For more information:

The center is in need of men's clothing. If you would like to donate, you can contact Thomas at 334-224-1460.
