Chilton Hospital to Remain Closed Under Agreement

Chilton Medical Center will remain closed under an agreement between state health officials and operators of the central Alabama hospital.

A hearing on whether to revoke the hospital's license was set for Thursday. But the Alabama Department of Public Health says it's been canceled.

The hospital's license will remain suspended, but it won't be revoked to allow time for another operator to submit an application to operate the hospital.

The hospital was forced to shut down late last month because it couldn't meet payroll.

Chilton residents needing a hospital now must drive miles to another county. Chilton Medical Center is the only hospital in a 60-mile stretch between Shelby and Autauga counties.
