First Congregational Christian Church Celebrates Black History Month
By Alabama News Network

Black history month continues to be recognized here in the birthplace of the civil rights movement as two special guests speak at First Congregational Christian Church.

Civil Rights Attorney Fred Gray and politician Dr. Joe Reed spoke at the church this afternoon. The Lanier High School Choir also sang a special arrangement of music for black history month.

Gray says a lot has changed since Rosa Parks, but there's still plenty to work on. "We have really made a substanial amount of progress on the one hand," he said.

"We have made that progress for the most part without a power structure in Montgomery agreeing with it," Gray explained. "As a matter of fact, we've made it with them placing everything they could in the way of it."

The church will be hosting more Black History Month events, to find out more call them at (334) 262-1887.
