Alabama government and religious leaders gathered with a small, but spirited, crowd for a service recognizing the 61st annual National Day of Prayer.

Gov. Robert Bentley tells the crowd of about 70 people that he begins each day by praying for wisdom and direction. He says Alabama is a state of people who are rooted in faith and that prayer is a part of the nation's heritage.

Speakers offered prayers for the nation, the state's leaders, education, family, the military, the media and businesses.

Bishop Willie Bradley notes that the U.S. valued trust in God so much that it was put on money. He says he prays that the nation can trust in God more than it trusts in its currency.
