Dimitri Polizos in First Place Heading to Runoff in Dist. 74 House Race

By Alabama News Network

Dimitri Polizos finished in first place in the special election primary for the Alabama House District 74 seat, but didn't have enough votes to avoid a runoff.

Polizos had 45% of the vote to second-place finisher Charlotte Meadows' 32%. They will be in a runoff on Nov. 19. Heather Sellers, who finished third with 21% of the vote is now out of the race.

Because all three candidates are Republicans, whoever wins the runoff will get the seat. But 2014 is an election year, so the winner will have to run again next year to get a full four-year term.

The seat became vacant when Rep. Jay Love resigned over the summer. The district covers part of Montgomery.
