Alabama Tourism is celebrating the Year of Alabama food and Sunday diners got to enjoy the 4th annual Taste of the River Region.

CBS-8 News anchor Stefanie Hicks
emceed the event, and other members of CBS-8 News joined diners to eat and drink at nearly 40 different restaurants and bars from the area.

More than one thousand people filled the Renaissance Convention Center stopping at different stations. The Alabama Restaurant Association hosted the event with the Junior League of Montgomery.

Local businesses say Taste of the River Region gives them a chance to reach out to groups of people they wouldn't normally have in their restaurants or bars.

It help my business a ton," said Eric Buggan, a board member for the Alabama Restaurant Association and owner of the Eastside Grill on the Atlanta Highway. "Everytime we showcase something new down here the sales on it quadruple within the next few months, so it really does work it gets your product out there face to face with the people.

Taste of the River Region raises thousands of dollars for charities in the area, this year it focused support for the Carver High School Culinary Arts Program.
