Petition Urges Money From Dog Fighting Raid Go to Shelters

An Opelika woman is petitioning to put money seized in the country's second largest illegal dog fighting ring bust to good use.

Alabama News Network first told you about that bust last month.

According to law enforcement, the government seized $500,000 from the ring.

Now Jacqueline McClintock has started a Change.org petition asking the money go to humane societies and no-kill shelters.

According to the petition, that would be more than enough to save more than 370 animals the same number authorities rescued from the dog-fighting ring.

The petition has more than 11,000 signatures so far.

Money from dog fighting can go to helping shelter dogs/rescued fighting dogs: these dogs can provide a unique source of support for people with depression, autistic children, seniors with dementia, introverted teenagers, post traumatic stress disorder, or people with chronic or terminal illness, etc. Humans must strive to be compassionate caregivers, protectors and stewards of the planet and its beings. Helping not harming. To create an environment where all sentient beings are treated with compassion and respect. Never to die needlessly or cruelly. These vulnerable, innocent beings have the right to live “cruelty-free” in peace.
