Electronics, Supplies Missing from AlabamaDemocratic HQ

By Ashley Thompson

New claims of missing supplies and equipment from the Alabama Democratic Party headquarters in Montgomery.

Nancy Worley became the chair of the Alabama Democratic Party last month after Mark Kennedy resigned to start his own political committee.

But just days after Kennedy left, Worley says things are now missing from headquarters.

"We're missing several items," Worley says. "Laptop computers, cell phones, art work that was on loan to the party and some belonged to the party, a variety of items, even copying paper seems to be missing. We know that intellectual property in some cases was taken, email lists."

Nancy Worley's claims of missing supplies is being disputed by former chairman Mark Kennedy, writing in part on his new party's facebook page.

"The allegations made by Ms. Worley are false. Nothing was taken from the headquarters that was not the personal property of staff...Ms. Worley should specify the items she keeps referring to and they will be returned immediately."

Aside from losing office equipment, Worley tells Alabama News Network that the party is broke. She says they're in debt upwards of half a million dollars, debt that dates back to the late nineties. And there is even more short term debt.

"The gas company came first," she says. "They left us a tag telling us the gas had been turned off. Then a day or so later the water company left us a tag. Then last week, it was the power company that called."

Now, Alabama News Network has learned that the party has been evicted from their current headquarters location, with orders to be out by the end of May. Political Analyst Steve Flowers says he believes Alabama democrats need help from Washington.

"My suggestion would be, if I was consulting with them, is try to get money from the national party because the national democratic party is flourishing."

Worley says some equipment could have just been misplaced when Kennedy and his staff moved out. However in the event that it was not misplaced, the party has hired a lawyer.
