Fatal Wreck Shuts Down I-65 Southbound

Interstate 65 Southbound between Fairview Avenue and South Boulevard in Montgomery was closed down for several hours Wednesday evening.

According to the Montgomery Fire Department, a car left the roadway, went down the embankment , and crashed into trees where it caught on fire.

It took several fire crews to put the flames out. 

The driver did not survive.

District Chief Brad Hackett says," on our arrival, the vehicle was well involved with fire. Crews responded and were able to extinguish it quickly. One patient was in the vehicle. And one confirmed deceased. Right now, it is being investigated by the police and fire investigators."

As of 10:00 pm Wednesday, there is one lane of I-65 Southbound traffic open.
