Gun Show Brings Up Gun Debate

By Sarah Cantey

Hundreds of people showed up to this weekend's gun show and it seems the gun debate is still on a lot of people's mind.

Michael McGuire sees how much the words "gun control" can affect his gun sales.
Michael McGuire, Flattop Enterprises said, "When those in positions of authority back in Washington DC begin to talk gun control, then you start seeing a ramped up presence of people thinking that 'I may never be able to buy something' and so they rush into buy something."
Show Promoter Ryan Wells said, "With the Navy Yard shooting I don't know if that is going to effect anything or not but it does bring peoples awareness up."
Tim Ackerman's definitely being more aware and paying close attention to what impact recent violence may have on Capitol Hill. He made sure to bring his two children to the gun show.  He said,  "Something they need to know because in the future they may not have this opportunity."
But right now, new gun laws in Alabama make it easier for gun owners to carry. People can legally walk into a business with a gun unless there's a sign against it. Some think this will help prevent tragedy.
Kristy Sumner from Highland Home said, "I think the more people that carry guns there would be less violence and less crime because you are able to protect yourself."
But even second amendment supporters like Tim Ackerman don't know if the law will make them safer.
Tim said, "if the company don't want you to bring the gun then they wont. But more than likely the criminal is going to bring his gun whether you put that sign up or not."
The gun show will still be going on Sunday from 10 till 4.
