Huge Cycling Event Coming to Montgomery and Pike RoadHundreds of cyclists will be pedaling into Montgomery and Pike Road for a first-ever competition. Montgomery was picked to host the first-ever USA Cycling Southeastern Time Trials Championship. The race is August 4. The purse is $5,000 and will be divided among the winners. Montgomery is ranked 46th in the nation for friendliest cycling cities because of the city's "Share the Road" signs and the building of more bike lanes. The event will include two races -- a 40K, which is 24.2 miles, for adults and a 12K, which is 7.5 miles, for juniors. The race course will start at Park Crossing Road and continue onto Ray Thorington Road, Pike Road and Wallahatchie Road. Cyclists will turn around and ride the reverse route to finish the competition. Pike Road Mayor Gordon Stone says the championship is good exposure for Pike road as well. The race has a limit of 500 cyclists. Entry fees start at $33 for adults and $18 for children. Contact Montgomery Multisport for more information. |
