By Alabama News Network

On New Year's Eve in 2011, a Montgomery mother lost both her legs and an arm during an accident. Today, Jessica Crumpton accomplished a major victory since that terrible day.

She and another runner walked in the one-mile race at Montgomery's half marathon. Crumpton and Montgomery Police Officer David Brown have been working with the same therapist for about a year.

Brown was critically injured escorting a funeral procession off-duty in 2010.

Recovery hasn't been easy for either one of them.

In addition to the race, she also reached another huge milestone yesterday. She was able to walk in a walker by herself. She says the walker has special meaning. It was a gift from David Brown.
